Write our Democracy: State of the Union

Marking one year since the launch of the series (and one year since the inauguration), Hugo House and Write Our Democracy present a special Winter Write-In: State of the Union.

Readers from around Washington state will read, followed by an onstage conversation between the writers about how their work has been influenced by the cultural and political happenings of the last year, how community is central to being a productive artist, and what they are doing to continue engaging with both artistic creativity and activism.

Featured readers include Shawn VestalRamon IsaoBecky Mendelbaum, and Seattle Civic Poet Anastacia-Renee.

Originally launched as Writers Resist, a movement that inspired nearly 100 worldwide events on January 15, 2017, Write Our Democracy is an initiative to gather and mobilize writers and focus public attention on the ideals of a free, just, and compassionate democracy.
